In 1986,
I was in a car accident on the 95 Interstate that completely totaled my
automobile. I survived with only a couple crack ribs and a bruised heart sack. I
felt some lower back pain for the first time in my life. It annoyed me for many
years, and I never did seem to get better, the pain just got worse. I had been
going to chiropractors for twelve years before deciding to do something
different. I found Laura Skutch in the Yellow Pages. This was one of the best
things that has ever happened to me! My back pain was interfering so much that I
couldn't enjoy anything athletically. I stopped doing sports, because I thought
it wasn't helping matters. I have taken sick days from work and I couldn't enjoy
my kids without worrying about my back. Within two to three sessions with
Laura, I was 95% better. Currently I am completely free of all back pain! Since
I've met Laura I have gotten my life back. I play basketball and love running.
I've completed the Marine Corp Marathon '99 in Washington D.C and ran the 2001
NY City Marathon. I only hope that this helps someone out.. Laura Skutch is not
only the best massage therapist in New England, but an honest and caring person
that has the answer to a lot of peoples back pain!! I hope you find her.

I have played sports and remained active for the majority of my life, and had never had any form of chronic pain before my back problems started. In 1992 while preparing for a camping trip I felt I had injured my back while attempting to load heavy gear onto the roof rack of my car. After driving for several hours with a feeling of tight lower back muscles, I was surprised to find that when I got out of the car my pain was so severe that I could not walk. I spent two days in severe pain and several more taking it easy and recovering. My lower back pain has been with me ever since.
For the majority of the past 10 years the pain in my lower back has been mild (some would call my pain severe). I wake up with pain in the morning (it often affects my sleep), and it goes away later in the morning or mid-day. Several times I have re-injured my back to the same degree as the first injury, and was unable to move without pain for several days, and then only with muscle relaxant medication. Eventually the pain would subside, and only be with me in the morning hours.
My life has been changed negatively by this constant belief that I need to take it easy to avoid severely injuring my back. I spent years trying everything to avoid stress and strain on my back, and listened to everyone I could talk to about ways to decrease the daily pain. I tried new beds, exercise, regular stretching, better shoes, better posture, better chairs, less overall activity, and anything else that sounded like it could help. Many of these efforts resulted in temporary relief, but in the end the pain would always return.
In 2001, while my company was struggling with a weak economy, and my job was becoming more stressful (now my neck and shoulders were constantly tight or painful), my wife recommended that I go for a message to relieve the stress. I opened the yellow pages, and found the ad for A Better Back Message Therapy and made my first appointment with Laura Skutch. On the phone I realized right away that this experience would be more than just a relaxing message I thought I needed. Laura began to discuss with me her overall style and methods, and everything we discussed made perfect sense.
After about twenty minutes on the phone we set up my first appointment. Without any reservation I can say that this appointment changed my life in so many positive ways I could never have believed possible. After the first appointment my back pain began to change, in the type of pain and degree of pain. After the second appointment I was almost completely free of all pain at any time of the day. I now live without back, neck, or any type of chronic pain, and I approach everything I do with more energy and physical confidence. I ski, hike, run, and do many more activities with my kids without fear of the pain in my back returning. I have recommended Laura to many of my friends, and have heard the same results. I only wish I had found Laura 10 years ago.

I was having back pain that radiated down my leg and into my left foot for a few months. I had gone to my internist and she was puzzled with why I was having this pain since I had not injured my back. She told me to continue with my aspirin and heating pad and to call her if I didn't get better. After weeks of that and no improvement I decided to have a pelvic ultra sound that showed nothing. I had scheduled an appointment with an Orthopedist for back x-rays as I was at wits end on what to do. All I knew is I needed some relief. I had lunch that week with a friend who said to me you should go and have a massage from Laura Skutch who is a massage therapist. I decided to go ahead and make an appointment with Laura since I really didn't know what to do. All I knew is I wanted to feel better. After seeing Laura three times and reading the book "Mind Over Back Pain" I can say I am free of pain. I would highly recommend Laura to anyone who has been having persistent back pain.
