In 1986, I was in a car accident on the 95 Interstate that completely totaled my automobile. I survived with only a couple crack ribs and a bruised heart sack. I felt some lower back pain for the first time in my life. It annoyed me for many years, and I never did seem to get better, the pain just got worse. I had been going to chiropractors for twelve years before deciding to do something different. I found Laura Skutch in the Yellow Pages. This was one of the best things that has ever happened to me! My back pain was interfering so much that I couldn't enjoy anything athletically. I stopped doing sports, because I thought it wasn't helping matters. I have taken sick days from work and I couldn't enjoy my kids without worrying about my back.  Within two to three sessions with Laura, I was 95% better. Currently I am completely free of all back pain! Since I've met Laura I have gotten my life back. I  play basketball and love running. I've completed the Marine Corp Marathon '99 in Washington D.C and ran the 2001 NY City Marathon.  I only hope that this helps someone out.. Laura Skutch is not only the best massage therapist in New England, but an honest and caring person that has the answer to a lot of peoples back pain!! I hope you find her.

I have played sports and remained active for the majority of my life, and had never had any form of chronic pain before my back problems started.  In 1992 while preparing for a camping trip I felt I had injured my back while attempting to load heavy gear onto the roof rack of my car. After driving for several hours with a feeling of tight lower back muscles, I was surprised to find that when I got out of the car my pain was so severe that I could not walk.  I spent two days in severe pain and several more taking it easy and recovering.  My lower back pain has been with me ever since.

For the majority of the past 10 years the pain in my lower back has been mild (some would call my pain severe).  I wake up with pain in the morning (it often affects my sleep), and it goes away later in the morning or mid-day.  Several times I have re-injured my back to the same degree as the first injury, and was unable to move without pain for several days, and then only with muscle relaxant medication.  Eventually the pain would subside, and only be with me in the morning hours.

My life has been changed negatively by this constant belief that I need to take it easy to avoid severely injuring my back.  I spent years trying everything to avoid stress and strain on my back, and listened to everyone I could talk to about ways to decrease the daily pain.  I tried new beds, exercise, regular stretching, better shoes, better posture, better chairs, less overall activity, and anything else that sounded like it could help. Many of these efforts resulted in temporary relief, but in the end the pain would always return.

In 2001, while my company was struggling with a weak economy, and my job was becoming more stressful (now my neck and shoulders were constantly tight or painful), my wife recommended that I go for a message to relieve the stress. I opened the yellow pages, and found the ad for A Better Back Message Therapy and made my first appointment with Laura Skutch.  On the phone I realized right away that this experience would be more than just a relaxing message I thought I needed.  Laura began to discuss with me her overall style and methods, and everything we discussed made perfect sense.

After about twenty minutes on the phone we set up my first appointment.  Without any reservation I can say that this appointment changed my life in so many positive ways I could never have believed possible.  After the first appointment my back pain began to change, in the type of pain and degree of pain.  After the second appointment I was almost completely free of all pain at any time of the day.  I now live without back, neck, or any type of chronic pain, and I approach everything I do with more energy and physical confidence.  I ski, hike, run, and do many more activities with my kids without fear of the pain in my back returning.  I have recommended Laura to many of my friends, and have heard the same results.  I only wish I had found Laura 10 years ago.

I was having back pain that radiated down my leg and into my left foot for a few months. I had gone to my internist and she was puzzled with why I was having this pain since I had not injured my back. She told me to continue with my aspirin and heating pad and to call her if I didn't get better. After weeks of that and no improvement I decided to have a pelvic ultra sound that showed nothing. I had scheduled an appointment with an Orthopedist for back x-rays as I was at wits end on what to do. All I knew is I needed some relief. I had lunch that week with a friend who said to me you should go and have a massage from Laura Skutch who is a massage therapist. I decided to go ahead and make an appointment with Laura since I really didn't know what to do. All I knew is I wanted to feel better. After seeing Laura three times and reading the book "Mind Over Back Pain" I can say I am free of pain. I would highly recommend Laura to anyone who has been having persistent back pain.

I suffered from significant low back pain for decades, beginning when I was 17, and UNTIL I discovered Laura Skutch. Her blending of massage therapy (she has decades of experience), and informed coaching on underlying cause of that pain (stress), cured me (or empowered me to cure myself) in a matter of weeks and after only 3-5 sessions. The simple reality is that her approach, which exploits her professional skills as a certified massage therapist, influenced by the writings of Dr. John Sarno, Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine, New York University School of Medicine, worked for me and worked well. That was 5 years ago. Since then I have rarely experienced low back pain, and each time have been able to quickly eliminate it by simply reminding myself of its origin - stress.

Laura helped me to understand the reasons for my pain Laura really helped me to understand why I was in so much pain and now, I am completely pain free. I was experiencing chronic pain and not understanding why. With our sessions together, I finally understood how my emotions were contributing to my physical pain. The combination of awareness and education I received from her about the mind/body connection was a revelation for me. I should have known this, but until I transformed out of my pain I don't think I really understood it. I have had events in my past that made me physically and emotionally unwell, but somehow realizing my injury was not the true reason for my chronic pain was what I needed to understand. The sessions with Laura are what helped me out of my most recent physical pain and hopefully will help me in the future. I can now help my clients, and myself, much better. Lisa J.

Great I decided to make an appointment. That was a great decision. Laura is a true Healer and a teacher. I was in an accident a few years ago, had PT and still have headaches and some residual pain in my neck. Laura suggested a craniosacral therapy session. It's not massage, but it sure has similar effects. I didn't even have to take my clothes off. My headaches are fewer and the pain in my neck is almost completely gone. And that session was 3 weeks ago. I just went back for one of his eclectic massages. One word - Magic. I'm going to have to send my wife to her. I liked her office. It's private and quiet and a little quirky. Her table is heated and the romm is toasty. This massage therapist is a hidden gem.

wg Laura's method really works and keeps working! I had sciatic pain for years. Doctors gave me various medications and support garments among other things which had no impact on the pain. My lower back started to hurt in 2008 and was unable to walk for two weeks. I tried a pain management clinic but didn't see much change. I found Laura Skutch and after my first massage I felt fabulous and the pain disappeared shortly after beginning treatments with her. It was gone- really gone - two years ago now and I haven't had back pain since. I live in Westchester County and drive 45 minutes each way to see Laura in Norwalk on a regular basis for ongoing stress reduction bodywork and wellness coaching. . W. G. Google

You Get Long-Term Solutions in a Short Time It always feels terrific to get a massage, but the effects are soon gone. What is different about Laura is the effort she makes to help you discover the source of the tension that causes back pain. When you become aware of that mind body connection, you are better able to manage the tension and reduce back pain for yourself. An ordinary massage is nice, but it is like being given a fish. Lauras method is to give you a fishing pole and teach you to fish for yourself.

Simpy the Best Given my extremely physical lifestyle I have had the opportunity to experience the full range of physical therapies over the years. It is not a stretch to say that Laura is simply the best I have met. Anywhere. She has great knowledge of the body and soul and approaches your needs from a methodical and holistic perspective. Laura has helped me through a number of injuries that eluded other practitioners across many disciplines.

Thoroughly Professional - Great for Back Pain I have been a weekly customer of Laura Skutch and A Better Back Massage Therapy for over ten years. It has made a huge difference in my state of mind, overall stress level and virtually eliminated chronic back, leg and foot pain. Laura's knowledge of the human body, including musculature, the nervous system and various pressure points, combined with a mind/body approach makes her the ideal massage therapist. Highly recommended.
